Building Division Overview 

The purpose of the City of Grass Valley Building Division is to enforce the minimum requirements of the California Building codes to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare through structural strength, mens of egress facilities, stability, sanitation, adequate light and ventilation, energy conservation, and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment and to provide safety to firefighters and emergency responders during emergency operations.


To this end the City Building Division processes all building permit applications, which includes plancheck when required, and insures building permit submittals meet City/State Building code requirements as well as other City Department policies and plan submittal. The Division also responds to public inquiries, assists with the review of housing rehabilitation projects associated with City loan/grant programs, and provides staff assistance to the City Appeals Board, Planning Commission, City Council and City Administrator. The City Building Division is a part of the Community Development Department and reports directly to the Community Development Director.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE NEW 2007 CALIFORNIA BUILDING CODES!

If you are an architect, engineer, designer, contractor,
or other person that performs work within the State of
California, please be advised that a new building code
will take effect on January 1, 2008. The new building
code is based on the
2006 International Building Code
(IBC) and it is significantly different than the
1997
Uniform Building Code
(UBC).


ALL PLAN REVIEW APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED AFTER DECEMBER 31, 2007 WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLY WITH THE NEW CODES!
